What personal features you look for when hiring?

Someone once asked me this question: what personal feature you look for when hiring?

What I have always looked for, while recruiting for my sales team and they proved to be true are as follows:

  • I want someone not only looking eager to get the job and answer my questions seriously (seating in a forward tilt and intense posture) but also someone who can relax and think solutions. Both these requirements ends up usually in a position which is not so intense and not too laid back, but thoughtful enough to be in a normal but serious stature.
  • Someone who tends to keep a smiling face but also doesn't lose seriousness while answering serious questions. I would want a smiley member in the team but certainly someone who knows how to be serious when needed.
  • I look for someone who is humorous amongst intense situations.
  • Someone who is nervous and moving fingers quickly or changing postures too often denotes too nervous a fellow who will lose power of thinking for solutions quickly and effectively. I look for someone slow and steady in his/her moves.
  • I look for attention and focus. A good listener will confidently respond and with full attention to the questions asked.

Ultimately, a true people-judge will be able to find out the true personality of the candidate.
